Lymphedema

At PRO Rehabilitation Services, we offer specialized treatment for many types of swelling and edema through our Lymphedema Management Program!

Our physical therapy team performing lymphedema management have had specialized training and experience and are certified in lymphedema treatment by various schools. They call us the "swelling specialists", as we help patients reduce painful and limiting swelling of their legs, arms, or face. We also help to improve mobility, and improve overall function!

AT PRO REHAB, WE DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

Physical Therapy Orthopedic Experience + Lymphedema Experience = Your Success!

When your physician wants physical therapy treatment and swelling care, you don’t have to choose one or the other - we can treat BOTH simultaneously!

What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is the chronic swelling of tissue due to an abnormal accumulation of protein rich fluid due to damage of the Lymphatic System. Lymphedema can occur anywhere in the body, but is most common in the arms and legs.

What are the symptoms of Lymphedema?

Lymphedema may be accompanied by a feeling of heaviness or tightness, difficulty moving, hard skin, folds developing on the skin, pain, or discomfort.

Left unmanaged, lymphedema can cause serious complications, including:

  • Increased risk of infection in the swollen area, because the cells that prevent infection aren’t well circulated in that part of the body.
  • Stiffness or soreness in the affected area.
  • Loss of functional mobility and the ability to accomplish daily activities of living.
